FAUM’s candle chess set takes the classic game to a fiery new level

Melding traditional techniques with an appreciation for beeswax as a sculptural material, FAUM released an elegant chess set to serve as a new addition to cozy, candle-lit game nights.

The entire board takes on a neutral colour palette with naturally pigmented wax in sage and ivory tones, and 32 iconic game pieces are transformed into pleasing, abstracted forms topped with a wick. With each candle lit, a dramatic game is ensured as you keep your opponents in check and potentially burn it all down in defeat. The move is yours.

Two oversized nests perch atop a restaurant made of invasive shrubs in the North Goa jungle

Roosted in the lush tropics of North Goa, India, a new restaurant offers patrons a view across the Vagator cliffs and into the sea from an elevated perch. Titled “Como Agua,” the open-air design is from the architects of Otherworlds, who built two large nests atop the bar that offer a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding landscape.

The 3,750-square-foot space is made primarily with bamboo and Lantana camera, an invasive flowering shrub that has wreaked havoc on local flora and fauna.

This shrub “has invaded over 40 percent of the Western Ghats, a total of 13 million hectares of Indian landscape. Arriving in India as an ornamental plant in the early 1800s, lantana has escaped from gardens and taken over entire ecosystems.”
