The Jamaat-e-Islami, along with a large number of affected students and their parents, staged a sit-in protest outside the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Friday to address irregularities in intermediate exam results.
A considerable gathering of affected students and their parents participated in the sit-in organised by JI Karachi. Protestors, brandishing placards and banners, voiced their discontent with the government and authorities through chants and slogans.
JI Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman issued a warning during the sit-in, stating that the next protest would be held outside the Sindh Chief Minister House if the issues with intermediate results were not promptly resolved. Addressing the sit-in, he announced an expansion of the protest's scope if the alleged educational injustices in Karachi were not addressed. He expressed shock and a lack of words regarding the perceived deep injustice toward Karachi and its residents.
Rehman criticised the authorities for allegedly depriving Karachi's youth of public sector jobs and subjecting them to injustice in professional education admissions. He claimed that up to 80 per cent of students were declared as fail, even after securing over 90 per cent in matric exams. The JI leader demanded a forensic audit of copies requested by students and a random audit of other copies. He stressed the need to scrutinise top rankers in other boards to establish grading criteria. He revealed the formation of a committee, chaired by Ibnul Hassan Hashmi, to oversee the issue. He urged affected students to submit their marks sheets to the committee.
He also criticised the role of the Pakistan People Party, accusing it of ruining the education sector for personal gain and corruption. He alleged the transfer of corrupt officials from other cities to Karachi and the making of fake appointments in their districts.
In a call to action, he urged Karachiites, especially the youth, to participate in the JI's program scheduled for January 28 at Bag-e-Jinnah, aiming to combat feudalism and injustice.
