LAHORE:A meeting was held at the Tevta Secretariat under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Industries & Commerce SM Tanveer in which the gas cylinder explosion incidents and preventive measures were reviewed.
LPG Industry Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar, the DG Industries, the Deputy Secretary Commerce and other officials concerned attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, the Punjab Minister for Industries & Commerce said effective measures need to be taken to prevent the manufacturing and sale of substandard gas cylinders.
He said OGRA, Industry, Home department, district administration and related institutions should prepare an action plan to prevent the business of selling substandard gas cylinders. SM Tanveer underscored that strict crackdown needs to be launched on the elements playing with the human lives. He said the relevant institutions should sit together and formulate the action plan with regard to launching a strict crackdown adding that illegal trading of LPG gas cylinders must also be stopped.
SOPs for manufacture and sale of cylinders should be fully implemented as well, he maintained. He urged OGRA and related institutions to introduce necessary legislation in this regard.
