Health reforms need of hour, says governor

LAHORE:Punjab Governor M Balighur Rehman said that reforms in the health sector are the need of the hour due to new trends in the field of medicine and there is a need to strengthen the system and framework for health reforms.

He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), which called on him at the Governor’s House here on Wednesday. Speaking on this occasion, Punjab governor said that medicine is a noble profession and doctors, nurses and paramedical staff served the suffering humanity and saved precious lives. He emphasised that a good doctor should be a good human being first.

The governor further said that due to lack of financial resources in the country, health sector is confronted with many problems. However, despite the limited resources, improvements can be made in every sector of society by adopting collective thinking. Punjab governor while appreciating the services of FJMU vice-chancellor said that under his leadership, many improvements are being made in Fatima Jinnah Medical University, including family medicine.

The governor said that the alumni of FJMU is bringing good name to the country with their professional competence. He urged the alumni to play their role in making their institution world class. He said that alumni are the asset to any institution. The governor said that nursing is a sector that needs attention. He said that there is a need to take practical measures to increase nursing care facilities in the country in a systematic manner.

On this occasion, FJMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal said that the alumni of Fatima Jinnah Medical University are making a valuable contribution in scholarships and development projects in their alma mater. He said that the alumni also contributed a large sum of money to construction of 100 homes, a school and a dispensary in flood-hit areas of Rajanpur. Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir said that during the covid, the state-of-the-art telemedicine department was established in Fatima Jinnah Medical University, and along with this, the work on the research portal related to gynecology was also completed.

Alumni from UK and USA Dr Hibba Haider, Dr Warda Tariq, Dr Fauzia Waqar, Pro Vice Chancellor, Kamran Khalid Kh, Principal Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Noreen Akmal, Registrar Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Prof Dr M Nadeem, Prof, Dr Bilqis Shabbir and other faculty members were present in the meeting.

Associate degree results announced

Punjab University Examinations Department has declared the results of Associate Degree in Arts/Science Part-I, II and Bachelor of Arts (Hearing Impaired) annual examinations 2023. While the last date of submission of admission forms of Associate Degree in Arts/Science Part-1, II and Bachelor of Arts (Hearing Impaired), supplementary examination 2023 with single fee is January, 3, 2024. All the candidates were informed that admission forms would be submitted online only and no admission form would be accepted by hand or by post. Details are available at www.pu.edu.pk.
