The Grammy-winning musician, 41, shared that she “went along” with the court -ordered conservatorship, which was under her father Jamie, for the sake of her two sons Sean Preston and Jayden with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

“I did it for my kids,” she revealed in her memoir. “Because I played by the rules, I was reunited with my boys.”

Spears temporarily lost custody of her kids in 2008 after a series of public breakdowns following her divorce from the former backup dancer.

The Overprotected musician explained that the conservatorship stripped her off of her agency to make decisions, ranging from her diet and hairstyle to her career and more.

“Even though I begged the court to appoint literally anyone else — and I mean, anyone off the street would have been better — my father was given the job,” she wrote in her book.

Spears broke free from her conservatorship in November 2021 after a series of emotional testimonies followed by the massive #FreeBritney movement kick-started by her fans.

“Freedom means being goofy, silly, and having fun on social media,” she penned in her memoir.

“Freedom means being able to make mistakes, and learning from them. Freedom means I don’t have to perform for anyone — onstage or offstage. Freedom means that I get to be as beautifully imperfect as everyone else.”

She concluded, “And freedom means the ability, and the right, to search for joy, in my own way, on my own terms.”
