Actress Zarine Khan, who made her debut opposite Salman Khan in Veer and was recently seen in Hate Story 3, inspired many with her recent post on Instagram. The actress posted pictures of herself from her heydays when she was overweight and did not fall into the category of what is now considered ideal figure.

Alongside the pictures, she wrote, “When I look at these pictures, I feel proud of myself today. Not that I felt any lesser about myself back then. Inspite of being so big, I never let people's comments or ideas about me bother me because it's my life and my body and only I have the right to decide what I'm going to do with it.”

She added that losing weight was a long and tough journey that came with its share of criticism and snarky remarks, however she remained determined. “Unfortunately I was criticised to no end for my weight but again I never let that get to me. How could I? Those people had not seen me like the way I am in these pictures here. And for me everything was just an achievement to reach from where I was to where I am. I continued on my fitness journey irrespective because fitness for me is a way of life now,” she posted.

Celebrities, like any normal person, have also come under fire for gaining weight and it’s refreshing to see many of them share the truth behind their struggle and use their status to give everyone a reason to fight for one’s self-esteem. Be it Kelly Clarkson or Tyra Banks, all have shown a significant level of confidence and grace in shutting down haters.

Recently, our very own make-up artist Natasha Khalid also got caught in a social media controversy suggesting that she went under the knife to lose weight. However, Khalid showed courage and told her many followers that she isn’t one bit ashamed of what she looked like before as it is symbolic of her journey of six years, while simultaneously writing off the claim by saying “there are no short cuts in life”.
