ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday disposed of petitions filed against the sit-ins staged by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek on the Constitution Avenue in Islamabad. The apex court disposed of the petitions at the request of petitioners.
A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the petitions filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Lahore High Court Bar Association and other bars against the sit-ins.
The CJP remarked that issuing any order in this case was not appropriate. Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that the court had already issued observations for the protection of the democratic system during previous hearings.
SCBA’s former president Kamran Murtaza appeared before the court and said the petitions had been filed to safeguard the democratic system. It would be better to dispose of these petitions as the two parties had recognised the system, he said.
