Emergency lifted, Constitution restored

  ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf on Saturday issued a presidential order to lift the emergency and to restore the constitution by ending the PCO.

The fundamental rights of people have been restored with the lifting of emergency, which was declared on November 3.

"The emergency is lifted. President Musharraf has signed the order repealing the state of emergency," government spokesman Anwar Mahmood said.

The Cabinet Division has issued a Presidential Order under which the state of emergency has been revoked and the Provisional Constitution Order-2007 has been repealed with immediate effect

The emergency remained in the country for 42 days. The constitution of 1973 has been restored with some amendments.

President General Pervez Musharraf will address the nation today in the wake of the lifting of the emergency and restoration of the constitution.
