ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton termed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani the magician of politics when she heard that he was unanimously elected as the leader of the house in parliament last year and was running the house with consensus since then with the confidence of the establishment and the masses alike.
“Excellency you are not a simple politician but a political magician and I am deeply impressed by your way of governance,” Clinton turned to the premier and addressed him with her famous broad smile.She had a useful exchange of views with Prime Minister Gilani in her maiden meeting with him on the day of her arrival here on Wednesday evening at the Prime Minster House.
A federal minister who was present in one hour long meeting told The News on condition of anonymity that Ms Clinton was amazed that Yousuf Raza Gilani despite the turmoil-like situation in the country succeeded in running the affairs smoothly. The premier took up with her reservations of the people of Pakistan with regard to the US policies in dealing with Pakistan and advised her to review all the subjects causing discontentment among the people of Pakistan about the United States.
Gilani praised assurances given by Washington to Islamabad on account of the war on terror and its support for fiscal problems. Gilani also discussed with her the early payments of the dues out of the accounts of terrorism compensation funds and the release of Dr Aafia Siddique.
