Says Taliban still using people as human shield in parts of Swat
LAHORE: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said Buner and Lower Dir have been completely cleared of the extremists and the IDPs can go back to their homes.
Talking to media persons after visiting the Rescue-15 blast victims at the Services Hospital on Saturday, he said the operation to clear all areas of the extremists was now a matter of only a few weeks.
Malik said he found all the blast victims in high morale and “it’s a good omen that today the nation is united and has the courage, which was seen in 1965.”
The writ of the government shall be established at all cost, he said. “I always asked the extremists to surrender as you have no place in Swat and Pakistan, and I warn you to leave every corner of the country, leave Swat, as we are there to flush you out,” he resolved.
He said: “I am glad that now every Pakistani child says no to the Taliban and extremists, and the entire nation, institutions and political forces have supported the Swat operation.”
“We will never allow the extremists’ Islamic ideology, which declares suicide attacks as justified (Halal), and I advise the extremists to be Muslim and Pakistani.”
Answering a question, he categorically denied the reports that intelligence was not accurate.
Separately, a high-level meeting was held here on Saturday at the Ministry of Interior to review the security of the Chinese nationals working on various projects in Pakistan.
The meeting decided to deploy additional force for the security of the Chinese nationals. -APP
News Desk adds: Malik on Saturday said the Taliban were still using innocent people in many parts of Swat as human shield.
The minister said this while talking to a delegation, led by Pascal Tuttat of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), which called on him here.
The minister briefed the delegation on the military operation in Swat. Pascal Tuttat assured of ICRC’s full cooperation in helping the victims of the military operation.
