Completion of surgical tower ordered
LAHORE
Adviser on Health Kh. Salman Rafique has directed authorities concerned to expedite the pace of civil work for completing and making functional Surgical Tower of the Mayo Hospital during the current financial year.
He said government had allocated 200 million rupees for Surgical Tower during the current year.
He issued this direction while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of construction work of Surgical Tower of the Mayo Hospital at the Civil Secretariat, according to a handout issued on Tuesday. Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Chief Engineering C&W, Chief Planning Officer Health Department Abdul Haq Bhatti, Project Director Dr. Ibrar Ashraf and other officers attended the meeting.
Chief Engineering C&W told the meeting that civil work of the Surgical Tower would be completed by June 2016. He informed the meeting that infrastructure of building had been completed, however work on the construction of partition walls, floor and fixing tiles was continuing speedily.
Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah stressed the need for coordinated designing for supply of sui-gas, medical gases and electricity wiring so that all the work should be completed properly and on time and unnecessary breakage of pipe fittings and electricity wiring could be avoided.
The meeting was told that technical bids for purchase of CSD, laundry and provision of medical gases had been received and the Grievances Committee after considering the objections would finalise on the stipulated time according to the procedure.
The MS Mayo Hospital told the meeting that 340 beds and 16 operation theatres were being set up at Surgical Tower through which best facilities would be available to the patients in the Surgery Department of the Mayo Hospital. Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah directed that the meeting of Coordination Committee must be held once a week for monitoring construction works of the Surgical Tower so that timely completion of the Surgical Tower could be ensured.
