Cops protesting non-payment of salaries arrested
PESHAWAR: A number of policemen protesting outside the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines to demand the payment of their salaries were arrested on Tuesday.
According to an official, around 100 policemen had gathered to stage the protest to demand the release of their salaries.
The cops complained that they had not received salaries and other benefits since long.Senior police officials ordered the arrest of the protesters demonstrating in the ‘red zone.’“Ten protesters were held,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat.
Hundreds of ex-servicemen and fresh young men were recruited as constables in recent years to assist the regular police in patrolling, snap checking and raids in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They were all hired against fixed pay for a specific time. Their contracts were also renewed as the police force lacked manpower.
