BHAKKAR: Managing Director Baitul Maal Pakistan Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh Tuesday inaugurated the Sweet Home Bhakkar.On the occasion, he said the children are the future of the country and it is our collective duty to patronize these children to make useful citizens. The Sweet Home is established with the cooperation of Dr. Afzal Khan Dhandla and has the capacity to accommodate 100 children. Their lodging, boarding and education has been facilitated in this Sweet Home. The people from all walks of life appreciated the said establishment.
Dacoit killed in police encounter

PHOOLNAGAR: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with police here. Saleem was on his way when three dacoits snatched Rs 3,000 and a motorcycle from him. The victim immediately informed the police, who reached the spot and started cashing the dacoits. Seeing the police, the dacoits opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, one of the three dacoits was killed on the spot while the others fled. Police recovered a motorcycle, mobile phones, calling cards and a pistol from the spot. Meanwhile, the killed dacoit has been identified by an injured complainant of yesterday’s dacoity in a mobile phone shop in Pattoki City.
Not a single mega project launched
in KP, says PPP leader

TAKHT BHAI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former provincial senior minister Rahimdad Khan Tuesday said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government had failed to launch a mega project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite completing half of the tenure. Talking to reporters here, he said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had made Pakistan a nuclear power despite tremendous world pressures. “The PPP workers are not disappointed and are striving to accomplish the mission of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” he added. He hoped that the party would emerge as powerful political force and form next government in the province. “All conspiracies to tarnish the image of the party will fizzle out,” the PPP leader said, adding that ZAB and BB sacrificed own lives for the nation but they did not bow to the dictators. He asserted that the government had failed to provide employment to the jobless youth who had been running from pillar to post.
Applicants ransack passport office during demonstration

GUJRANWALA: People on Tuesday ransacked the passport office during a demonstration against alleged corruption while the passport officials injured four journalists for covering the protest. The applicants came to the passport office but the officials did not listen to them. It infuriated the applicants and they staged a demonstration against the passport officials. They also ransacked the office. The protesters alleged that the passport officials were busy obliging the agents, forcing them to wait for hours in queues. Meanwhile, the passport officials allegedly tortured four journalists and damaged their cameras for covering the protest. On the application of the injured journalists, Civil Lines police have registered a case against 14 passport officials, including the assistant director, and started investigation.
Rickshaw driver shot dead in Kasur

KASUR: A rickshaw driver was shot dead at Usman Wala area. Muhammad Asif of Dhing Shah locality was carrying passengers towards Usman Wala, When he reached near Pial Kalan canal bridge two motorcyclists shot him dead. According to police, the motive behind the killing might be an old enmity. Reportedly victim Asif had killed his sister and her paramour for honour.
Two students killed in accident

KASUR: Two students were killed in a road accident on Tuesday. Annas, 15 and Adeel, 12, were heading to school on a bicycle from Nathuwala village, near Targa village a speeding tractor-trolley hit them, leaving Annas dead on the spot and Adeel wounded critically.
Three killed, 41 injured in Faisalabad fog- related accidents

FAISALABAD: Three people were killed and about 41 others injured in different road accidents due to heavy fog here on Tuesday. In the first incident, Rahim Haider and Naeem Ajmal of Chak 237/RB, Khudian Warraichan, were killed while their friend Bilawal Nawaz was critically injured when a trailer hit their motorcycle near Roshanwali Jhal Bypass on Dijkot Road. In the second incident, a dumper dashed into a motorcycle near Darbar Bus Stop on Chiniot Road.
PHC acquits six accused convicted by ATC

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday acquitted six accused convicted by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in a kidnapping case. The accused Zakir, Liaqat, Yasir, Hazrat Hussain, Shafiullah and Gul Mohammad were arrested and convicted by a local court for kidnapping one Asif and robbing him of Rs2.7 million. The lawyer of the accused argued that his clients were innocent as the investigation into the case had created doubts about the entire procedure. A division bench of the court comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Musarrat Hilali acquitted the accused after hearing the arguments.
PML-Q leader blasts govt over ‘mini-budget’

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) provincial president Intikhab Chamkani on Tuesday blasted the federal government for unveiling a mini-budget and termed it an injustice. Addressing the party workers here, he criticised the Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar for setting a new precedent for presenting two budgets within a year. The imposition of new taxes, he said, had made life miserable for the people. Intikhab Chamkani maintained that increase in the prices of daily use items would affect the common man. He said though the prices of petroleum products were low in the international market, the federal government didn’t lower the rates. The PML-Q leader said the rulers imposed 10 percent tax on 350 items to collect money from people for own luxuries. Intikhab Chamkani said the government abolished subsidy provided to the Utility Stores to appease the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
PTI activists stage protest against MPA

PESHAWAR: The activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from provincial assembly constituency PK-11 on Tuesday staged a protest against Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ishtiaq Urmar for what they called supporting the candidates of the rival political parties in the May 30 local bodies elections. Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Istiaq Urmar, the protesters gathered outside the building of the Peshawar Press Club to stage the protest. PTI leaders Dr Inayatullah Chamkani, Malik Rehman, Niaz Gul and others were leading the protesters. The protesters accused Ishtiaq Urmar of corruption in the uplift projects and awarding contracts of development projects to his near and dear ones.

DC staff demands release of salaries

MINGORA: The employees of the district council, Swat, on Tuesday set up a hunger strike camp outside the office against the non-payment of salaries for the last three months. Talking to reporters at the protest camp, representatives of the employees, including Dr Khalid, Ali Rehman, Mushtaq Ahmad and others, said that their families were facing hardships due to non-release of the salaries since long. They asked the provincial and district administration to intervene and help release their salaries or else they would launch a protest campaign.
