At least 10 plastic warehouses were gutted on Sunday as a massive fire broke out near the Super Highway.
Police officials said the blaze erupted at a plastic warehouse in Macchar Colony within the limits of the SITE Superhighway police station. As the fire brigade received the information, it dispatched two fire tenders to the site; however, as they were not enough to put out the flames, two more fire tenders were sent to the location.
According to a spokesperson for the fire brigade, initially the fire erupted at a single warehouse. However, it soon intensified and quickly engulfed the nearby warehouses. The firefighters were able to douse the blaze with their hectic efforts of at least three hours.
Commenting on the blaze, a warehouse owner alleged that the police and firefighters did not act on time after the fire erupted. The fire could have been controlled before it spread had the firefighters reached the site in a timely manner, he said.
The owner said the blaze gutted at least 10 warehouses. He added that 10 cows also died as they burnt in the fire incident. The total damage caused by the blaze was worth over Rs5 million, he claimed, demanding that the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar compensate the warehouse owners for the losses they had incurred.
