LAHORE: A 40-year old man was recovered dead from BRB Canal near Jallo Bridge on Monday. The victim has been identified as Rashid Riaz. A passerby informed police about the body floating in the canal. Local police reached the scene and fished out the body with the help of rescuers. Police have removed the body to morgue.
Meanwhile, body of an unidentified person was recovered from Bhati Chowk on Monday. The victim also bore torture marks on his body. Police removed the body to morgue. Sikh yatree: Law enforcement agencies are still clueless about the missing Sikh yatri Amarjit Singh who had gone missing during the recent visit to Lahore. No case has been registered so far about the incident.
A 23-year old Sikh was a resident of Amritsar. Police sources said Singh had come back to India from Malaysia five months back and was in contact with travel agents in Lahore. He intended to travel to Europe via Taftan border, sources claimed. He was last seen in Nankana Sahib with some other Sikh. His passport is in the custody of Gurudwara Committee.
road accidents: A total of 915 road accidents were reported in the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue-1122) in all 37 Districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Four lives were lost and 659 seriously injured were shifted to hospitals of relevant cities. Some 414 with minor injuries were discharged after first aid by emergency teams.
According to the data, 461 drivers, 16 underage drivers, 144 pedestrians and 472 passengers were among the victims of the road accidents.
