KARACHI: Tainted Test pacer Mohammad Aamir will play competitive cricket after four-and-a-half-years when he represents Omar Associates in the Patron’s Trophy Grade II which will start from March 9.
Omar Associates on Wednesday unveiled their squad for the vital assignment which carries the 22-year old Gujjar Khan-born Aamir.
In late January, the International Cricket Council (ICC) allowed Aamir to play domestic cricket.
Aamir’s five-year ban ends on September 2 this year.
Amir, who shot to fame at the World T20 in 2009 and was an integral part of the team in all formats for the next one year, was sentenced for six months in prison in England for his involvement in spot-fixing during the Lord’s Test in August 2010 along with captain Salman Butt and fast bowler Mohammad Asif.
An official of Omar Associates told this correspondent that Aamir was fit and would play in the event.
Omar Associates, who will be led by Hafiz Saad Nasim, face Army in their opener on March 9 at the Army Ground in Rawalpindi.
The team will leave for Rawalpindi on Thursday (today).
