CM announces cash prize for top 10 position holders of govt-run school

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak Sunday announced Rs1 million cash prize for the students of public sector government schools who were among the top 10 position holders in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) examinations across the province.

The cash prize will be in addition to the merit scholarships and other prizes awarded as usual. “Every year each of the eight BISEs in KP awards a National Talent Scholarship of Rs10,000 per month for two years to the top 25 position holders, i.e science and humanities/arts group, said a handout.

However, the latest announcement is exclusively for the students of government schools that mostly accommodate children from poor families.The chief minister made the announcement while handing over a cheque for Rs500,000 to Shah Faisal, a disabled student of the Government High School in Haripur who topped SSC examination conducted by the BISE, Abbottabad. 

KP Minister for Education Mohammad Atif and Minister Health, Science and Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai were also present on the occasion. The chief minister also announced that besides this prize and usual scholarships, the outstanding special child would be given a laptop also. He said that his government was concentrating on improving the standard and quality of education in the public sector institutions where mainly the poor students study and thus the gap between the poor and the rich narrowed.

Te chief minister asked the Minister Education Mohammad Atif to finalise the codal formalities for these scholarships and cash prizes on urgent basis.
