Two more men killed in Quaidabad, Bin Qasim as target killers strike freely

Karachi

Two members of the Shia community were among four people gunned down in Karachi on Friday, the city caught in a fresh wave of target killings after a considerable period of peace that had become possible because of the law-enforcement agencies’ ongoing crackdown against criminals.

Saudabad sub-divisional police officer Raja Mohammed Hassan said Asim Ali and Ameer Haider, both members of the Shia community and residents of Jaffar-e-Tayyar Society, were present at a tea stall near Nadir Ali Pulliya in Saudabad when two men riding a motorcycle arrived there and opened fire at them.

The two men were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where expired. A passer-by, Amir, also suffered injuries in the attack and was admitted to the hospital.

The police officer said both men had suffered bullet wounds to their chests and were attacked with a 9mm pistol. Asim Ali was also an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

The officer said the attack appeared to be sectarian in nature, but aspects would also be investigated.

The home minister has directed DIG East Kamran Fazal to submit a report on the incident to him and ensure that the attackers were arrested as soon as possible.
