An exciting display of dodging, sweeping and of-the-earth movements at National Press Club (NPC) was some of the unique features of a training session that was held to train the journalists and their kids as part of the programme to promote Capoeira, a Brazilian martial arts that combines elements of fight, acrobatics, music and dance in a very elegant and magnetic way.

Dozens of journalists and their kids attended the ongoing training session in which a group of experts not only displayed techniques of Capoeira but also imparted training to the participants in an impressive and attractive manner.

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial arts that focuses on kicks, knee strikes, punches and evading attacks. It is a very fluid and acrobatic martial arts style. Capoeira looks almost like dancing because Brazilian slaves were able to practice this martial arts in front of their colonial masters by saying that they were dancing.

Without music, there is no Capoeira. It is a fundamental part of the "Game". It dictates the tempo of the full match. People from a circle around the two combatants and clap hands and sing. This is called a "Roda". The instruments, when used together, is called "Bateria".

Amir Butt, a journalist, said, “I enjoyed the display of four different martial cultures in the training session as each one was effective and beautiful in its own way.”

Another journalist Izhar Khan Niazi said, “It’s amazing to observe that one can escape danger as well as carry out an attack on enemy in artistically beautiful and artful way using techniques of Capoeira.”
