Five militants killed in retaliatory firing by soldiers in Mohmand
GHALLANAI: A major and a Havaldar of the Pakistan Army sustained injuries in firing by the militants from Afghanistan side in Mohmand Agency on Sunday, while five militants were also killed in the retaliatory firing by the soldiers.
Militants attacked the checkposts of the security forces along the Pak-Afghan border in Khwezai-Baizai subdivision with heavy and sophisticated weaponry. The sources said the attack originated from Afghanistan, adding that the security forces repulsed the attack. The sources said that five of the attackers were killed in the retaliatory fire.
Media reports said the spokesperson for the Jamaatul Ahrar militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. Also, two bodies were recovered from a seasonal stream in Ambar tehsil. The bodies were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Ghallanai for identification.
The security forces launched a search operation after the attack and the political administration banned motorcycle riding in Mohmand tribal region.
