The Malir district police announced on Thursday three terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in a shootout in Sohrab Goth Industrial Area.

The three were wanted in cases of target killings and attacks on security forces, said SSP Rao Anwaar.

Police raided a hideout on a tip-off from an informant that several members of a banned outfit were present in Faqeera Goth. On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire. The law enforcers fired back, killing three of the suspects. An unspecified number of other terrorists escaped, however.

During a search of the hideout, the police found a submachine gun, two TT pistols, two kilograms of explosive and a motorcycle.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for postmortem examinations.

Among the dead were Commander Munshi of the TTP and Nadir alias China, who belonged to the TTP Swat. The third suspect is yet to be named.

SSP Anwaar said Commander Munshi was from Waziristan and a close associate of Shahmim Ladha of the TTP. The suspect was said to be involved in attacks on law enforcers, including attacks on Manghopir Police Station and a Rangers mobile near Ship Owners College.

Munshi had come to Karachi with a bomber from Afghanistan and attacked a Rangers mobile. During the attack, two of their associates Usman and Jamshed, fled.

SSP Anwaar said Munshi and Nadir were also involved in killing police and Rangers officials and attacking security forces in Waziristan and Swat.

He added that the two used to kidnap traders of marbles in the Manghopir area as well as owners of petrol pumps situated on the outskirts of the city. The suspects also took extortion money from a number of people.
