First convocation of College of Home Economics held

A convocation and exhibition of Islamabad College of Home Economics and Management Science F-7/2 was held here on Wednesday on the college premises. The exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of State for CADD Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary.

This was their first convocation and degrees were conferred to 69 graduates and nine postgraduates upholding the glorious tradition of highest academic standards. Thirty-one graduates received the ‘Role of Honour’ for their outstanding performance in BS Honours & MSc Home Economics textile & clothing, university examination. Students also received prizes on their achievements in academic and co-curricular activities.

The chief guest congratulated teachers and students for organising the most exquisite exhibition & was delighted to see the excellence and creativity broad forward by the specialised fields of Home Economics. He congratulated the faculty and students for organising a very well exhibited convocation and promised to look into the college in inadequacies and shortage of staff.

Dr Tariq Fazal said that it is an honour and privilege to be a part of the first convocation ceremony of College of Home Economics and Management Sciences. He said that the days of harmony are over and now as individuals you are moving into the practical field.

He said, “I wish all these students best of luck in their future endeavours. I would like to share with you that the project of College of Home Economics is no longer a dream. We are working very hard for the completion of the project and facilitating, wherever the need arises.”

In welcome address Principal of the college Professor Samar Zaffar thanked Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary for gracing the occasion. She informed that the college is functioning in the premises of F G College of Women F-7/2, Islamabad, now known as IMCG (PG) F-7/2 Islamabad. “We started as a department of Home Economics later the faculty upgraded to college in July 1989 by Ministry of Education. The construction of college has been approved and soon the college has been shifted to its own premises. The independent college will serve as pivotal point for other co-related professional courses for women.

Today, on its first convocation, degrees have been conferred upon 68 graduates, eight post graduates. Moreover, 28 students will receive Roll of honours for their exceptional performance at graduate and postgraduate levels, maintaining the glorious traditions of academic standards. The group of students who will receive degrees today are the last group affiliated with Punjab University. Due to the devolution of education to the province, the ICT institution have been affiliated with Quaid-i-Azam University for undergraduate and graduate level of its degree programme.

The past 10 years of the college has bagged 3 first university positions, two 2nd positions and one 3rd positions university and today this last batch of Msc Textile & Clothing is graduating with roll of honour.
