Model college teachers to go on strike from 10th

Teachers of Islamabad Model Colleges on Monday decided to completely boycott duty from Thursday (March 10) against the relevant authorities' failure to meet their demands, especially on upgradation and regular promotions.

The strike will continue until demands are met.

The decision made during a meeting attended by presidents and general secretaries of all units of the Islamabad Model Colleges Central Academic Staff Association (CASA) came as the examinations of grade 1 to grade 8 are underway.

A spokesman for the CASA said the association had submitted a charter of demands to the CADD minister, secretary and joint secretary (education) and DG FDE on February 19, 2016, clearly warning that the IMCs teaching community would go to any extreme level if the demands were not met.

"The attitude of CADD and FDE officials remained indifferent as was expected by the teaching community though all the demands were for the better performance of the model setup," he said in a news release.

The spokesman said all the CASA demands were practical, positive and practicable but ironically, despite the lapse of two weeks, the authorities concerned had neither showed any interest to resolve the longstanding issues of the teaching community like upgradation in line with the prime minister's directives, regular promotions, adoption of KPK 4-tier promotion formula, monetisation, creation of posts to deal with shortage of teachers and establishment of new model colleges nor had they contacted the CASA, the representative body of the IMCs teaching community.

He said the imminent strike of the teaching community would put the future of around 40,000 students at stake as the annual examinations from grade 1 to grade 8 were being conducted in the IMCs.

The CASA spokesman said the association had time and again raised voice against the corrupt practices of certain FDE officials but little or no action had been taken against such practices.
