Planning and Development Department of Punjab has finally approved and released funds for Government Boys Degree College and Government Girls Degree College, Dhoke Syedan, Rawalpindi.
Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO) in collaboration of Accountability Lab and Making All Voices Countable (MAVC) raised a campaign for release of funds of two degree colleges of Dhoke Syedan Chowk, which were started in 2007 by previous government of Pakistan Muslim League (Q). It was said by Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director of Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO), that the development of colleges was ceased due to political reason and the buildings of colleges became a hub of drug addicted and criminal people.
Youth Accountability Ambassadors of Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) raised an extensive campaign for completion of two degree colleges during last 3 months. SSDO took initiative to launch a campaign for these two colleges. They contacted all relevant stakeholders of Rawalpindi and Punjab to highlight the issue and to take them on board to resolve the issue on priority basis.
He said that the meetings were conducted with local members of national and Punjab assemblies, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer, Directorate of Higher education, Planning and Development department and local residents of the area.
