The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has spoken and it looks like Vice has walked away with most nods followed by Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born.
As the year inches towards closing, award announcements are coming around. The Emmys have some changes in mind. The Oscars rescinded its decision to add a popular film category.
For now though, most of the nominees are hardly surprising but it is a surprise that Vice, in which Christian Bale essays Dick Cheney, is leading the nomination pack with six nominations.
In predictable nods, Timothée Chalamet’s nomination for Beautiful Boy doesn’t come as a surprise neither does the nomination of Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody and Bradley Cooper for A Star is Born.
In television categories, not surprisingly Amy Adams has picked up a nod for her beautiful performance in Sharp Objects. She has also picked up a nod for Vice in Supporting category.
The lack of presence of Barry Jenkins in the category of Best Director – Motion Picture for If Beale Street Could Talk is quite the mistake. He is the same man who gave us Moonlight.
Sandra Oh will compete with HFPA favourite Elisabeth Moss (Handmaid’s Tale) for her role in Killing Eve. The series has also picked up a Best Drama nod.
The biggest news is the nomination of Black Panther that has comic book fans excited. And you have to admit, it’s a pretty cool film.
