KARACHI: Karachi Police on Saturday detained a man suspected to be an informer in Amjad Sabri’s murder case, Geo News reported.
According to the police sources Saleem Chanda has been taken into custody in connection with the slain Sufi singer and would be interrogated.
The man is suspected to be a informer in this high profile case, the police said.
“He was sitting next to the singer in the car when he was attacked by gunmen,” sources said as quoting the police.
Police had been trying to record Saleem Chanda's statement but he was avoiding to appear before the police since Amjad Sabri was assassinated.
The family sources, however, said that Saleem Chanda is an old servant of Amjad Sabri and was staying with him since his childhood.
Earlier the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) also arrested a suspect in a pre-dawn raid, three days after the famous qawwal was gunned down in broad-day light.
The suspect was taken into custody in a raid carried out in Surjani Town area and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The CTD claimed the suspect is affiliated with a political party and has made "significant revelation" about the murder of Amjad Sabri.
