Saturday, November 07, 2009
By our correspondent

BARA: Security forces arrested a militant belonging to a banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) while a soldier sustained injuries when militants on Friday attacked a military convoy in Sipah area of Bara Tehsil in Khyber Agency.

Tribal sources said militants attacked the convoy in the area, inhabited by Sipah Afridi sub-tribe, leaving soldier Syed Nabi injured. Security forces returned the fire but there was no word on the casualties.

Soon after the incident, three gunship helicopters pounded hideouts of the militants for two hours. Security forces also fired artillery shells from the Fort Salop. The sources said that some of the shells also landed in civilian areas, which also came under shelling by the gunship helicopters in Sipah area.

Councillor Sobat Khan said that his house was also hit in the shelling. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies arrested a wanted LI militant, who was allegedly involved in attacks on security forces and police.

The arrested militant was identified as Delawar, son of Iqbal, resident of Bara Qadeem. Unidentified militants attacked security forces in Koe Chowk area, injuring soldier Sadiqur Rehman on Thursday.
