By Sohail Khan

ISLAMABAD: Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday on Friday observed that he would think over the matter of recusal -- whether he should quit or not from the bench hearing corruption case against former Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa.

A five-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, while hearing a corruption case against the former attorney general adjourned the proceedings for an indefinite period.

Latif Khosa the other day filed an application in the Supreme Court, praying for recusal of Justice Rmaday from the bench constituted to hear the corruption case filed against him (Khosa).

On Friday, while heading the bench, Justice Ramday, in his remarks on an objection plea filed against him, said he would think over the matter of recusal -- whether he should quit or not from the bench.

He further said that he was never biased and never gave verdict in favour of any leader or worker of the PML-N.During the course of the hearing, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja read the charges framed against the judges in an anonymous letter sent to him.

“The purpose of reading this letter here is to address once for all, the trend in our society,” he remarked, adding that it’s because of the system, and we have to restore the integrity and dignity of both the Bar and court.

Latif Khosa, who appeared in person before the court, said they strongly condemned this letter. While conversing with Latif Khosa, Justice Ramday said: “I had never talked about your corruption.” In reply, Khosa said “you sometimes made unpleasant remarks.” Justice Rmaday said: “It is a demand of my designation to give the right to those who deserve it.”

Hamid Meghfoor Shah, a NAB convict, had furnished the corruption charges against Khosa through two eyewitnesses — Maulana Dawood and Colonel Sami. Khosa has been alleged of getting Rs 3 million as bribe from the applicant for getting the decision in his favour although the decision went against him (applicant).

Latif Khosa, however, during the initial proceedings of the case rejected the allegations levelled against him.Hamid Meghfoor Shah, the applicant, along with his wife Dr Mazhar Jamal, also appeared before the court. Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
