Tuesday, November 03, 2009
By Imtiaz Hussain

KHAIRPUR: Fourteen passengers, including five women, were killed and 20 others were injured on Monday when a bus collided with an oil tanker on the National Highway along Ghotki while overtaking a motorcycle.

Police sources said the passenger bus (JA-6611) was bound for Rahim Yar Khan from Sukkur. The Motorway Police, residents of Ghotki and police pulled out victims from the rubble after cutting some parts of the bus.

The district government declared emergency in hospitals of Ghotki and adjacent areas where people rushed to donate blood. Some of the dead were identified as Samina, Shafa, Maqsooda, Alim Khatoon, Shabana, Saeed, Atta Rasool and Atta Muhammad. Ghotki police and the district administration dispatched bodies and slightly injured passengers to their native towns of Jacobabad and Kandhkot. Sources said the accident was caused due to the repair work on the National Highway, which is under way for the past two years.
