Don’t take sirens of ‘Flag March’ for anything else
Monday, May 04, 2009
by Our correspondent

Islamabad

Fire tenders with blasting hooters and ‘Care 1122’ ambulances of the CDA Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management will stage a ‘Flag March’ on main roads of the metropolis today starting at 5 p.m. to mark International Fire-Fighters Day.

In a situation where people immediately get tense on hearing sirens of ambulances and hooters of fire tenders, the drill may cause panic.

However the concerned officials in the CDA said that as the programme is announced in advance, people should not panic on hearing these sounds today after 5 p.m.

CDA Civic Management Director General Syed Mustafain Kazmi said that the programme and the route for the ‘Flag March’ has been finalised in consultation with the Islamabad Traffic Police. He said that the ITP officials would provide escort to the ‘Flag March’.

“After starting from the Jinnah Convention Centre at 5 p.m. and taking a round of the city, the ‘Flag March’ will end at the Fire Headquarters in Sector G-7,” he said.

He said that the event would highlight the state of preparedness on part of the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management of the CDA and the efforts that it is making to make the capital a safe city.

CDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Khan will be the chief guest on the occasion, which is being organised to commemorate International Fire-Fighters Day as well as to honour and acknowledge sacrifices of fire-fighters who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the Ghakkar Plaza fire and the Hyderabad oil tanker fire incidents in December 2008.
