Police deny arrest of Briton

PESHAWAR: As authorities were grilling a British national for suspected links with terrorists, the city police categorically rejected any such arrest during the recent past. “We have no information about the arrest of any British national in the past few days,” a senior police official told ‘The News’ requesting anonymity. Sources, however, said that James Alexander Mclintock was nabbed by the law enforcement agencies some time ago from Peshawar suburbs for his suspected links with the extremists. He had been staying in Pakistan since 2004 and was known with his Muslim name, Yaqoob, after reportedly embracing Islam. James was also arrested in 2001 and was repatriated to the United Kingdom.
Two killed

MANSEHRA: A man killed his wife and her alleged paramour in remote Kohistan district Sunday. Mohammad Sadam first killed his wife, a mother of nine, and then shot dead Abidullah before fleeing the area.
DSP’s son, friend kidnapped

PESHAWAR: Son of a Peshawar police officer was kidnapped along with his friend from Mardan a fortnight ago, a source disclosed. It was learnt that Attiqur Rahman, son of a deputy superintendent police (DSP) serving in Peshawar, was picked up from somewhere near Mardan College, on March 26. Nisar, who was accompanying Attiq, has also been found missing since then.
Industrialists claim threat to dismiss female workers

PESHAWAR: Managements of some industrial units in Hayatabad have alleged that they have received threats to dismiss female workers or else face attacks. However, majority of the industrialists and employees in these units termed it mere a rumour. There were reports that some armed men visited factories in the Industrial Estate, directing watchmen to convey to the administration to dismiss all the female staff. They warned of attacks if woman workers were not sacked. Some industrialists and workers, however, played down the report as baseless. “It could be the statement of an individual but the majority has not received any threat,” said an industrialist, requesting anonymity.
Pindyali resident kills two militants

GHALLANAI: A resident of Pindyali tehsil in Mohmand Agency shot dead two Taliban and injured as many when they tried to drag him out of his house in Tamazai area Sunday. Sources said the militants asked Sawab Khan to come out of his residence but he refused. When they tried to drag him out, he opened fire, killing two of the four militants on the spot. The sources said the other two militants also sustained bullet injuries.
Body of tribal elder recovered

SADDA: Beheaded body of a noted tribal elder, Haji Sardar Khan Ali Sherzai, who was kidnapped on Thursday, was recovered from Sateen area on Sunday. Sources said unidentified gunmen had kidnapped the tribal elder from the main Sadda bazaar and took him to an undisclosed location. His beheaded body was found dumped at Sateen area. No group has claimed responsibility for the murder. The main bazaar was closed in protest against the murder of the tribal elder. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Sadda Town.
Easter celebrated

PESHAWAR: Amid tight security in view of the worst law and order in the Frontier province, the Christian community celebrated Easter, their second major religious festival, with religious zeal. The main celebrations were held at St John Cathedral Church in Peshawar cantonment, where a large number of Christians attended the special service. Special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country. Our correspondent adds from Parachinar: A handful of Christians celebrated their Easter in Catholic Church here Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, the local priest, Riaz Masih said Pakistan was passing through a critical juncture and the government should spare no opportunity to tackle the insurgency across the country. He said the Christian community would leave no stone unturned to render sacrifices for the interests of the country.
Two killed in Jhelum accident
JHELUM: Two persons were killed and another injured when a car plunged into the river Upper Canal here the other day. According to police sources, a car was on its way when the four wheeler veered off the road and fell into the rive Upper canal Jhelum near Khohar village, resulting killing two persons identified as Waqas (10) and his father Fida Hussain (45) on the spot.
Man commits suicide
KOTLI: A young man committed suicide while shot himself with pistol here the other day, police said. City police, SHO, Raja Jameel Jenial told this agency that Mohammad Ijaz Butt, s/o Rahim Dad Butt after exchanging hot words with his family members got enraged and then fired pistol at his head and died instantly.
Chakwal suicide bomber’s sketch released
CHAKWAL: District Police Chakwal has released the sketch of the alleged terrorist suicide bomber involved in the Imambargah suicide bombing here on April 5. Police drawing the sketch with the help of the eyewitnesses released here appealed to the people to inform DPO Chakwal and IG Punjab police offices, if they have any information about the attacker. According to DPO Chakwal, BA Nasir, any information can be given on following phone numbers. Illegal filling of cylinders continues
FATEH JANG: Despite ban on filling of cylinders in the populated areas, the business is being underway due to negligence of authorities concerned. The public and social circles of tehsil while expressing their concern over the situation said that the filling of gas cylinders in the populated areas could cause any untoward incident. They demanded the administration to take notice of that serious matter and take effective steps to stop illegal filling business of cylinders in the populated areas.
Qul
MURREE: Qul of wife of Haji Mehboob Abbasi will be observed on Monday (today) at her native village at 2 p.m. She was died on Saturday and was buried in her native village Talut Aucho near PC Bhurban. She left behind to mourn four sons Zafeer Abbasi, additional secretary Ministry of Interior, Dr Safir Abbasi, Dr Zaheer Abbasi and Dr Hafeez Abbasi, says a press release.
