ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb says the PML-N government has taken a number of steps to empower women at the grassroots level.
She was addressing a conference on ‘Women Day’ here Saturday organised by Chartered Accountants Association of Pakistan. She said in revised curriculum the topics of women empowerment and women rights had been introduced right from class one so that children could become responsible adults in later life. The minister said, “No country can make progress and move on path of development without an active participation of women in all spheres of life.”
Marriyum appreciated the Waseela Taleem programme of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). She said political parties should enhance the number of females in their ranks and also issue more tickets to them in the elections.
The minister said media had a crucial role to play in women empowerment by disseminating information about the rights and empowerment of women through its programmes. She referred to Women Sports segment of state run TV where the women games are being promoted in order to attract more females to the games.
