Sacrifices of security personnel in Karachi will not go in vain: Asif

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence and Water & Power, Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said sacrifices rendered by personnel of security and law enforcement forces for restoration of peace in Karachi will not go in vain.

In a statement issued today, he said forces that have taken the Sindh capital hostage will be abolished.

The statement comes a day after two soldiers of Military Police were martyred after their vehicle came under attack on M A Jinnah Road in Karachi.

An inquiry committee has also been formed and tasked to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Police, DIG South Dr Jameel will head the committee and will be entitled to seek anyone’s assistance within the city range.

DIG Central Investigation Agency (CIA), SSP South, SSP West, SSP SIU and DSP Preddy were also included in the high-level probe committee.

The committee will report to the IG Sindh on daily basis and will remain active till the arrests of the culprits, said the notification.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Rangers have announced a Rs2.5 million reward for any information leading to terrorists involved in Tuesday’s attack on M A Jinnah Road, targeting the vehicle of the Military Police.

DIG South Dr Jameel has claimed progress in the ongoing investigation of the attack, saying eye witnesses’ accounts have been recorded at the Preddy Police Station in this regard.

He said militants belonging to local and international terrorist outfits might be involved in the attack.
