HOUSTON: US Congressman, Al Green, says US is a superpower and there is nothing else that have the ability to police the world.
He was addressing a gathering hosted by Houston Karachi sister city (HKSC) to honor visiting journalists from major news outlets.
He also awarded these journalists with Congressional recognition certificates. He further said, “we can be anywhere there in time of requests, we can intervene. But with all of this power, the question is not where we can police the world.
The question is whether we can bring peace to the world. This is what a superpower has as its super responsibility. Super powers, whether they like it or not, are a part of glue that holds the world together.”
He said “We may not be the only glue, but we are clearly a necessary part of the glue that helps keep the world together.”
He said he believed Americans have reached a point in time where the United States of America can and should elect a female president.
He said it would have an indirect impact on the entire country, people, and globe. Congressman Green said “I am so honored to see that this country moving in this direction.”
He said the diplomacy is not the diplomat who is appointed by the president, it is not the state department either, but first line of diplomacy is the one on one relationship between the people in one country to another country.
He said the journalists who have come this distance are the heart of the diplomatic effort for bringing better relationships.
The congressman he believes one of the nobler professions of the planet earth is that of journalism.
The HKSC president Saeed Sheikh while addressing the gathering said that journalists from Karachi has played a vital role in bringing people of two cities closer.
On the occasion, Congressman Algreim Awarded Pakistani journalist on behalf of mayor of Houston Anise Parker.
Congresswomen representative Ivan Sanchez also awarded congressional recognition from congresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee to visiting journalist including Saleem Ahmad, Naseem Haider, Raja Zahid Khanzada, Qazi Yasir, Owais Alam, Monis Bin Ali. Leader of Pakistani physicians (APPNA )Dr. Asaf Riyaz Qadeer and Khalid Qazi and others also addressed the gathering. Farah Iqbal conducted the event and a diner was also served to invited guests, journalists, and local dignitaries.
