ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim Legue-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Marvi Memon has been appointed as Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

An official statement issued here on Wednesday said that Memon's designation would be equivalent to minister of state.

Memon, the former MNA of PML-Q, had joined the ruling PML-N in 2012 after resigning from the National Assembly and her party on the principle of “not wanting to be part of corrupt and incompetent treasury benches, setting new standards in today's politics”.

Memon was later elected on reserved seats for women in the National Assembly on the PML-N’s ticket after losing the NA-237 Thatta election to the PPP's candidate in 2013.
