KARACHI: Two refineries are operational in Karachi, therefore, the metropolis could not face shortage of petrol, according to Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

PSO spokesman said supply of petrol to the filling stations was not slashed, adding that Petroleum Dealers Association is based on lie.

The spokesman further said Karachi could not face shortage of fuel as two oil refineries are operational in the port city.

Earlier, following the crisis of petrol shortage in the Punjab, the fuel pumps in many areas of Karachi also started to close while long queues were seen at others that were still open.

Clifton, Defence, New Karachi, Liaquatabad and some old city areas are among the localities of the metropolis where petrol pumps have been closed by the owners.

The latest development shows that the petrol crisis has spilled over from the Punjab to other parts of the country.

According to President All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers, Shabbir Suleman Ji, 30 percent of the total number of petrol pumps across the city was closed down after they ran out of their supplies.

He said rumours about the suspension of petrol supply triggered an aggressive sale at the pumps, as people got their fuel tanks topped up to avoid any inconvenience in the coming days.

He called upon the Karachiites to get only as much fuel for their vehicles as required.
