GM Syed’s birth anniversary today

January 17, 2013
HYDERABAD: PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is coming to visit Sindh to attend the two major public gatherings and separate meetings with party cadre to initiate pre-election campaign in the province, where stage is set to give tough time to rival PPP in its stronghold.
The first meeting Nawaz Sharif will attend is the 26th death anniversary of peasant leader Fazil Rahu, the father of PML-N Sindh leader Ismail Rahu. It will be held at Rahuki, Badin district on January 17.
Shahnawaz Rajpar, PML-N local activist and active in organising the event confirmed that Mian Nawaz Sharif will attend the public meeting with provincial leadership, where a large number of local notables and political cadre have been invited.
The cultural activities related to the death anniversary of Fazil Rahu started on Wednesday evening with poetic gathering, in which poets and writers paid tributes to the peasant leader, who was murdered in Badin town 26 years back. Rahu was the founding leader of Awami Tehreek.
On the 17th there will be political gathering in which Nawaz Sharif would be the key speaker. Veteran Sindhi nationalist leader and founding president of Awami Tehreek Rasool Bakhsh Palijo and others are also expected to address the public meeting in Rahuki. Besides, politicians of Sindh, the organisers claim to have invited Baloch and Pakhtoon leaders for the event, but they are not sure whether all of them would attend the event.
Similarly, the PML-N chief would participate in another public meeting on January 19, which is being organised by Sindh United Party (SUP) at Bhanoth, Hala New, one of the strongholds of the PPP and the family constituency of the Makhdooms of Hala. Bhanoth is the home village of Shah Muhammad Shah, the vice chairman of the SUP.
Political analysts are giving importance to these major events, considering it will motivate the isolated political activists and dissidents of the PPP, who are willing to join the PML-N, taking it as a better alternative for the future changing scenario. In this meeting the PPP rivals, the PML-F leaders and local notables have also been invited.
However, the spokesman for the SUP denied inviting PML-N chief at Sain GM Syed’s 109th birth anniversary being held at Sann Town on Thursday (Jan 17th). The SUP and other factions of Jeay Sindh Tehreek usually organise the birth anniversary separately in the Town of Sann. They said since the birth anniversary of Sain GM Syed is just gathering of family and political followers, they have invited Nawaz Sharif to a separate public meeting on the 19th.
The News collected information from Sann town, which reveals that a large number of people, mostly from young political cadre and students were pouring in the hometown of GM Syed in Jamshoro district on Wednesday evening to attend the music programme, cultural and literary events being organised by the different factions of Jeay Sindh Tehreek on the occasion of the 109th birth anniversary of Sain GM Syed, the founder of Jeay Sindh Tehreek.
After the announcement by a major group Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), almost all the other groups were unanimous to recite the anthem of Sindhudesh at the shrine of Syed together on Thursday morning, where hundreds of people will join the gathering.
Almost all the Jeay Sindh factions had the same argument that they were celebrating the annual event with simplicity, organising music concerts and only leaders will pay homage to the founder of the Tehreek.
Private publishers set up the stalls for the books published on the occasion. The anniversary is the major event; it attracts writers, poets, intellectuals and Sufi singers, who participate in the event.
Decorated boats travelled from other jetties to Sann to facilitate political activists coming from the areas located close to both sides of the Indus River, as many of them prefer to avoid travelling long distance by road and use the boats to reach their destination.
