Job fair begins at agriculture university

HYDEABAD: The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and USAID has organised a three-day job fair at the university campus.
The fair started on Wednesday with a workshop titled 'Career Opportunities for Job Marketing and Merit -Based Scholarship Programme'. Different business and professional organisations have been invited to set up stalls to attract job-seekers and graduates to learn and hunt for opportunities.
Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (IBA) Karachi Associate Director Shahid Qureshi, Mahvish and Jehangir Siddi Foundation chief operating officer Muhammad Ali Charania, University Advancement USAID Merit Assistant Project Manager Imran Hanif Khan, and others spoke on the occasion.
Besides, organising the job fair at the university premises, they have arranged to have a career orientation for fresh graduates by experienced professionals and academics. They encouraged the graduates to compete in the job market, sensitising them for launching business ventures to earn sufficient income.
The event attracted SAU graduates, academia, and employer firms, related to agriculture sector, deans of different faculties, HEC officials, successful entrepreneurs, and retired bureaucrats. They shared their experiences and encouraged university graduates to compete in the world's job market.
SAU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeebuddin Memon in his inaugural speech urged graduates to come out of expectations for getting government jobs and show merit and compete globally.
"There is a mindset that people want to have government jobs. But now they should come out of this mindset and take part in the competition at province, national, and global level to get jobs on merit," VC said, adding that "it is the only way out to show your growth and talent".
Dr Memon said the agriculture sector was important because Pakistan's economy depends on agri business. Issues of climate change and

threats to food security are important to understand, and promoting agriculture education may produce well learned people, able to deal with these challenges, he added.
He negated the view that those who do not get admitted in medical, engineering, management and business administration join the agriculture university. "I must tell the youth that this institution (SAU) is contributing a lot and produces more graduates, who may compete in the world job market," he said.
Dur-e-shahwar Sadozai, Director Capacity building and Alumni Relations USAID, Islamabad, lauded the role of the SAU team, which brought people from diversified fields for the orientation of graduates, who may get scholarships and jobs on merit. She said it is an inspiring event in which graduates of agriculture university may find employment opportunities and get exposure for their talent. The HEC encourages universities and is increasing scholarship programmes for higher education and studies abroad, she added.
