ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has lost all the six elections it contested directly or indirectly following conclusion of 2014 sit-ins which were staged against alleged rigging during May 2013 elections and in all cases margin of its defeat has increased as compared to 2013 elections.
After end of D-Chowk sit-ins, PTI lost elections from four National Assembly (NA) seats and two provincial assembly seats.
NA constituencies include NA-137 Nankana Sahab, NA-246 Karachi, NA-108 Mandi Bahauddin and NA-19 Haripur. Provincial assembly seats include PP-196 Multan and PP-100 Gujranwala.
Though a judicial commission comprising top judges of the country trusted by the PTI has also rejected all PTI allegations about rigging, the party is still stuck to its stance that 2013 polls were rigged against it but surprisingly results of bye-elections show PTI is unable to secure the number of votes it attained during May 2013 general elections in any specific constituency.
On March 15, bye-elections were held in NA-137 because of the death of its representative. PML-N candidate Dr Shazra Mansab won the NA-137 by-election by securing 77,890 votes whereas famous IB-character Brig Ijaz Shah who was supported by PTI as well as all other political parties secured only 39,635 votes.
On April 24, bye-elections were held in NA-246 following resignation of MNA Nabil Gabol. PTI made tall claims about Karachi constituency but MQM’s Kunwar Naveed Jamil bagged 95,644 votes and PTI’s Imran Ismail could get only 24,821 votes.
On May 21, in PP-196 bye-elections, Rana Mahmoodul Hassan of PML-N won by defeating main rival Rana Abdul Jabbar of PTI with a margin of over 10,000 votes. The PP-196 seat fell vacant due to disqualification of provincial minister Ch Abdul Waheed Arian.
On June 8, bye-elections were held in NA-108 following disqualification of MNA Chaudhry Ijaz. PML-N’s Mumtaz Ahmad Tarar won securing 77884 votes while PTI Tariq Tarar could bag only

40570 votes.
On July 26, bye-elections were held for PP-100 Gujranwala. PML-N’s Rana Akhtar Ali defeated PTI’ Ehsanullah Virk by massive margin of 21,000 votes. The by-election was held after PML-N’s Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan died.
On August 16, in bye-elections of NA-19, whole leadership of PTI ran election campaign. Reham Khan, wife of PTI chief Imran Khan, was also part of campaign.
PML-N also ran a rigorous election campaign but PTI was sure of victory.
However, Babar Nawaz of PML-N defeated Raja Amir Zaman of PTI with a huge margin though during May 11, 2013 general elections, the difference of votes was very little in the same constituency.
