LAHORE: The roof of a two-storeyed building collapsed in New Anarkali Bazaar on Friday evening.
No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident till the filing of the report. Rescue 1122 officials and Edhi ambulances reached the scene and started a rescue operation. It was feared that 10 to 15 people were trapped under the debris.
However, no one was recovered from the debris. The news of the roof collapse spread in the City like a jungle fire. A number of traders and shopkeepers gathered at the scene. The DCO Capt (retd) Usman also reached the scene. He told the media that labourers were busy demolishing the shop when its roof caved in.
Traders said the owner of the shop and the tenant had a dispute over the renovation of the building. The incident raises questions about the performance of the City District Government Lahore against dangerous buildings.
