LAHORE: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) Central Zone Monday arrested three members of an inter-provincial gang of robbers and recovered a car, illegal arms and looted money from them on National Highway near Chung, Lahore.
The Motorway Police Beat 12, Maraka, had received a call about a car being driven on the highway by suspicious armed persons. A police squad, led by DSP Farakh Shah, Inspector Asif Ayub and SI Mustanser Abbasi, later intercepted the said car after a brief chase and arrested the three alleged criminals near Chung.
The accused were identified as Sadaqat Ali, Ali Raza and M Javed. Police impounded the car, and recovered sophisticated weapons and cash from them.
The arrested accused confessed that they had been involved in criminal activities and were handed over to Chung police for further interrogation.
NH&MP DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik has appreciated the patrolling officers.
Rescue-1122 performance: The Punjab Emergency Service (PES), commonly known as Rescue-1122, responded to 820 road accidents across Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these mishaps, seven people were killed and 931 others were injured. As many as 580 seriously injured people were shifted to different hospitals, while 351 with minor injuries were provided treatment at the incident site by the Rescue teams.
According to the Rescue-1122 data, majority of accidents (58%) involved motorbikes. As many as 325 drivers, 22 underage drivers, 160 pedestrians and 453 passengers were among the victims of the road accidents. The statistics show that 212 road accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 215 persons, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by 75 in Faisalabad with 85 victims and Gujranwala at third with 59 accidents and 64 victims.
PHP monthly report: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has issues its monthly performance report, showing that the force recovered 25,701 litters of liquor, 103,301 grams of charas, 1,314-kg Hashish, 1,646 grams of opium, 905-gram heroin, 24 Kalashnikovs, 18 rifles, 47 carbines/ guns, 290 pistols, 48 magazines, 1,918 bullets/ cartridges, and rendered 18,862 helps to road commuters last month.
The PHP registered 1,616 cases against rash driving, illicit arms holders, and drug-paddlers. Its teams arrested 432 proclaimed offenders and 63 court absconders during the month of April. The PHP also reunited 36 lost children with their parents. The team impounded 62,099 motorcycles for not having legal documents or for using fake number-plates. The patrolling police planted 298,450 saplings under the green highways drive and removed 4,192 temporary encroachments.
