Insurgency dying in Balochistan, says Gen Janjua

QUETTA: Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Muhammad Nasir Khan Janjua on Friday said that the insurgency in Balochistan was going to end and now people would fully enjoy peace in their region.
The people engaged in the insurgency have now realised they had adopted a wrong path, while the Frontier Corps and intelligence agencies are united in their actions against terrorists and anti-peace elements, he said.
He was speaking during a high-level meeting that decided to form a new force, comprising 1,100 personnel for Gwadar Safe City Project and to allocate Rs2 billion for it besides taking more measures for the security of Chinese engineers working in Balochistan.
This was decided in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and attended by Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Muhammad Nasir Khan Janjua, Chief Secretary Balochistan Saifullah Chathha, provincial ministers, home secretary, General Officer Commanding and senior officials.
A new force comprising 1,100 personnel will be formed at the cost of Rs2 billion for the Gwadar Safe City Project so that foolproof security could be provided to the Chinese engineers and other people living in Gwadar and travelling on the coastal highway, the meeting decided. It was also decided to approach the federal government to get financial assistance to execute this project.
The meeting decided to present the plan on the proposed new force in the meeting to be held with Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal in chair in Islamabad on August 3 to review the Gwadar-Kashghar Economic Corridor Project. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said security forces should get cooperation of the local government representatives in their actions against the anti-peace elements.
Mutual cooperation of security forces and local bodies representatives will help in achieving the task for restoration of peace, he said. He emphasised the need to complete the projects of cadet colleges and residential colleges in Panjgur, Turbat and other districts of the province. The commander Southern Command said the chief minister, all political parties and civil and military leadership were on the same page in the war on terrorism. The Balochistan Police have been enjoying the support and cooperation of the army.
