PESHAWAR: All the markets across Khyber Pàkhtunkhwa remained closed for the second day on Monday while the government announced shutting all restaurants and fast food outlets till March 29.

The main trade centres in Saddar, city, University Road, Karkhano, Hayatabad and suburban areas remained closed. Only grocery shops, pharmacies, milk shops, bakeries, meat shops, atta chakkies remained open. The restaurants and fast food outlets, which were earlier allowed to deliver food at homes, were also closed on Monday.

Besides, the inter-cities public transport was suspended till March 29 to stop people from coming out of homes. There was no traffic rush in the main city, Saddar and other parts of Peshawar that normally remain blocked during the peak hours.

Most of the people preferred to stay home to prevent the spread of Corona. Heavy contingents of police were deployed at a quarantine centre set up on the outskirts of the provincial capital for those coming from Iran. As many as 132 people returning from Iran arrived at the centre late on Monday amid tight security. They were shifted in four buses accompanied by police and other officials.

The cops and other staff at the quarantine centre were directed to use masks and take precautionary measures while looking after those at the quarantine. Apart from a few from Gilgit-Baltistan, all of those arriving on Monday belong to different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Capital City Police Officer Mohammad Ali Gandapur, Commissioner Amjad Ali Khan and other officials visited the quarantine centre to inspect the security and other arrangements for those returning from Iran.
