ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser telephoned the opposition Leader in the National Assembly Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on his return home on Sunday morning and discussed formation of parliamentary committee on Coronavirus. Asad commended Shahbaz Sharif for returning home to join the struggle against the virus with the entire political leadership at this critical time. Both the leaders discussed the present state of the virus spread and its impact on the economy. Asad informed Shahbaz about the establishment of Parliamentary Committee on Coronavirus. He said the committee will monitor the steps of the government and forward its suggestions.
He said a loud message needed to be sent to the people that their leadership stood together. He asked him to give the names of his party’s representatives for the parliamentary committee. Shahbaz hailed the speaker's efforts to unite the political leadership in this difficult time. "We need to think beyond politics to tackle the coronavirus being a global epidemic," he said. “We have to take every step thoughtfully. Coronavirus has destroyed killed thousands of human beings in the world and it has hit the world economy hard. Our country is already facing economic challenges; therefore, adoption of a joint approach is the need of the hour to address its detriments to the economy.
